CMW’s submission to India’s Central Consumer Protection Authority request to combat greenwashing

Carbon Market Watch welcomes the opportunity to submit input to India’s Central Consumer Protection Authority’s draft guidelines on greenwashing. CMW comments cover a small subset of elements and focus on those items which are closest to our expertise.

Our main recommendations:

  • “Carbon neutral” and other compensation claims should be banned
  • Promote the alternative: “contribution” or “beyond value chain mitigation” (bvcm) claims
  • Future climate-related claims / targets must have stronger substantiation requirements
