Background:
The current reform of the EU Emissions Trading System will be an opportunity to address a number of concerns, including the volume of emission allowances freely surrendered to companies under the EU ETS. This event looks specifically at the cement sector’s current treatment under the system, the challenges and barriers to innovation, and what low-carbon solutions are available in the sector. Ahead of the European Parliament’s ENVI committee vote on the reform of the EU ETS post-2020, InfluenceMap and Carbon Market Watch will discuss along with policymakers, investors, industry frontrunners and others, new findings that identify some of the key issues decision makers must consider when deciding on cement’s competitive, low-carbon future.
