Ensuring an ambitious implementation of ETS2

Together with over 75 partners representing civil society, companies and business associations we say no to further weakening or delay of ETS2.

Carbon Market Watch is calling on the European Commission, the European Parliament and EU member states to ensure an ambitious and timely implementation of the Emissions Trading System for road transport and buildings (ETS2).

The scheme has already been delayed by one year, postponing critical climate action and costing €50 billion in lost auctioning revenues.

Our demands:

  • Get ETS2 up and running in 2028, with no further delay or increase to its carbon budget
  • Strong complementary climate, social and fiscal policies at national and EU level
  • Public participation in spending of ETS2 revenues at national level
