This acronym stands for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which was adopted in 1992 as a foundational international treaty to tackle climate change. It has formed the basis for significant and subsequent treaties, including the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, which set the terms for international cooperation on climate change.

The UNFCCC has 198 signatories, and its parties meet annually at summits, known as the COP. The meetings are facilitated by the United Nations.
