Net negative emissions

Definition

While most climate targets are concerned with balancing out emissions to reach a status of net-zero or climate neutrality, a step beyond that would be to reach net negative emissions. That would involve society not only reaching a point where all emissions are counter-balanced through reduction efforts but that the volume of greenhouse gases removed from the atmosphere is greater than that pumped into it.

Carbon Market Watch investigates the potential of various negative emission technologies and natural methods in our Carbon Negative Handbook.
