This event is kindly hosted by Linda McAvan MEP (S&D), Bas Eickhout MEP (Greens/EFA) & Peter Liese MEP (EPP)
Thursday 29th November – 13.00-14.30
On November 29, Sandbag and Carbon Market Watch are organising this event which will investigate how international offsets from Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and Joint Implementation (JI) projects are being used in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), as well as explore practical options to reform offset usage to maintain the incentives and environmental integrity of Europe’s flagship climate policy.
The event coincides with the launch of Sandbag’s “Offsetting in the EU ETS” 2012 report- and related online map which gives a detailed up to date overview of how offsets are being utilised in the EU ETS along with where they are being sourced.
The event will act as a platform to debate wider issues related to offsetting including additionality, sustainability criteria and offsets for state level compliance by the UK and other EU members.
