India International Centre, New Delhi
16 November 2009
Jointly with several Indian Organisations***, CDM Watch organized a CDM workshop for NGOs, activists and citizens. More than 80 NGO representatives, activists and citizens met to discuss the performance of the CDM against its objectives. Participants concluded that any post-2012 mechanism must strengthen the principles of sustainable development and environmental integrity. They underlined the urgent need for reform in the CDM or replacement by an improved mechanism. Lessons learnt from the current CDM must be recognized by improving the participation of citizens in the process, amending flawed methodologies, creating more transparency in the CDM decision-making process and establishing a competent institutional set-up. The workshop concluded with a CDM Workshop Statement which was presented at the COP-15 in Copenhagen in December 2009.
