Carbon Market Watch Workshops
In late 2011 we organised a regional civil society workshop together with our Network member Focus on the Global South in Bangkok. This event provided a forum for South East Asian civil society to discuss the problems of the CDM, how they could be addressed and what the role of civil society in this process should be.
Jointly with several Brazilian Organizations, CDM Watch organized a CDM workshop on “The Role of Civil Society in Climate Change Mitigation Projects” in Brasilia, Brazil. Drawing on the experience of Brazilian citizens on how good, bad or ugly projects can be implemented; participants identified problematic cases of climate change mitigation projects in Brazil, discussed and analyzed the experience of citizens impacted by these projects and created a critical civil society platform.
Ahead of the 2010 UN Climate Change Conference in Tianjin we organized a civil society workshop together with GAIA, the China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO) and the Chinese Civil Climate Change Action Network (CCAN). Over 30 Chinese NGOs came together to discuss the CDM in China in the context of the international UN negotiations
Jointly with several Indian Organisations, CDM Watch organized a CDM workshop for NGOs, activists and citizens. More than 80 NGO representatives, activists and citizens met to discuss the performance of the CDM against its objectives. Participants concluded that any post-2012 mechanism must strengthen the principles of sustainable development and environmental integrity.
