A detailed agenda will follow shortly.

Background:
The aviation sector, both in Europe and internationally, is a top polluter that has not contributed to European climate objectives under the EU Emissions Trading System
(EU ETS) to the same extent as other sectors. The European Commission recently published a proposal revising the sector’s participation in the EU ETS. The proposal followed the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) decision to establish a global offsetting measure for aviation which will enter into force in 2021.

Carbon Market Watch and Transport & Environment would like to invite you to an event to discuss the recent developments, and in particular what is to be done in the period from 2017-2020 when international aviation is not bound by any climate agreement, and how aviation can contribute to strengthening the EU ETS post-2020.

The event will analyse the Commission’s proposal, explain what is at stake if Europe doesn’t address the rapidly growing emissions from aviation, and how to achieve adequate ambition in the sector.
